HP ProLiant ML115 G5 and PERC 6i Controller woes

Hi, I wonder if any of you can help me please?

I brought an HP ML115 G5 to play with ESX4i in the home lab.

I wanted to use a grown-up RAID card so got a PERC6/i and installed in the PCI-E x8 slot.

When I try to go into the RAID card BIOS (CTRL-R) it hangs at "Initializing-HA" stage.

I've tried it in the x16 PCI-E but it's the same.

Annoyingly, card works fine in old Asus P35 board

I've checked the firmware and it's the latest for this card (1.22.02.0612)

Read lots about this box and PERC 5 controllers but not 6. It's the full 6i with battery backup not the iR card.

I just wondered if any of you have this combination working or know of any tricks/issues?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is. Good thinking though.

Anyone else. It's an opteron 1354 chip. Read somewhere that PCI-E slot needs to run at x4 but I can't see an option in the bios to slow it down?

Going back to the KISS principle, I've solved it.

Basically, even though the onboard nvidia RAID controller was set to disabled, I had to also disable the SATA ports (not sure why these are different options, assume there are two controllers on the board).

Once I did that, could get straight into the controller BIOS.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
