Hi, i have an HP Proliant ML310 G5p that wont turn on.. there is an amber standby light lit on the front of the case and the same on the motherboard. so i assume the PSU is ok.. wont actually turn on and no beep codes.. i have reseated all connectors and RAM.. the CPU heatsink is fixed ok. Could it be motherboard or CPU? i think it might be a socket 775 with a xeon inside.. i do have a spare core2duo somewhere tp try.. any ideas?

I will say the heatsink is pretty thick with dust.. it was a pc used for sub station monitoring... but umm nobody monitored, is it possible the CPU has burnt out
?

ok and im being a real muppet here... will any network do.. ie like an ADSL..with just a netgear router with DHCP. i will read up on it next week anyway..

sorry wrong foum post can someone move this??????

You plug it into an ethernet port with a standard cat 5 cable. However, if iLO has not been set-up, it wont be any use to you in this situation as you would need to power the machine up, to set it up in the first place.

It should have a cardboard tag on the server with the default iLO details, the standard url is;
https://iloserialnumber

^ so a url starting with ilo and then the server serial number e.g. ilo12345678, default admin account is 'Administrator' but the password could be anything, if you don't have the tag, you may be out of luck, try the admin password for the box, maybe someone set it the same.

If you can log in you should be able to see some hardware monitoring data from the iLO chip, it might be able to tell you what the problem is.
