for interest... and just in my opinion, owning both headsets.........
For most people I think as an entry into VR and considering the price the Quest 2 is probably the best VR headset to buy as an all rounder...... however the Reverb G2 does have some significant advantages (and some disadvantages) which means for some people the G2 will be the better bet. Its a lot of headset for the money, the image quality is superb!., it is comfy and the sound is good too.... for general thoughts however best look in the relevant threads..

Sorry, it doesn't matter what headset you get, there is going to be a bit of faffing around. That's just the nature of VR at the present time.
Naaah it was more than that with the G2. The G2 literally did not work on most people's AMD systems using built in USB. New cable fixes it.

Yeah, but, that was a big faff. I was just responding to TheOracle saying he doesn't want even a tiny bit of faffing around.

In which case you best bet is probably an oculus quest and stick purely to oculus store titles.
The G2 is not a major faff but there can definitely be hassle die to windows MR Vs steamVR

Games like elite dangerous the oculus version just performs better with less hassle

i haven’t got one yet but was something I was considering

When did you get your Reverb G2? You would want to ask in the Reverb G2 thread to make sure, but, I don't think it's an intermittent problem. IF you had it, you would know it. If you bought your headset recently, it might already come with the updated cable.

ditto what melmac said, with my v1 cable it simply would not work properly when using onboard usb... luckily i had a pcie usb3 card and it worked on thiat (still with the odd cut out mind you) however with the new v2 cable i just plugged into my mobo and (touch wood) it seems to work just fine.

you can tell a V2 cable from a V1 as it has a small power button on the power block of the cable running from the headset to your pc. if you happen to get old stock (tho i think you should be ok now) but if you do, its a free replacement.

if in doubt google images, they do look different.
oh my IPD is 69, and it works just fine, if your IPD is over 70 i think you will be at the limit of most commercial devices.

but 70 or less and you are golden with the G2. I cope with the IPD on max with the quest 2 but it is not as good (just for reference)
