I recently bought my dad the above scanner as his old one was not compatible with Windows 7. HP released a software update for the scanner a couple of weeks ago, which I installed. Upon restarting, the computer would just about get to the desktop before completely switching off. I could do this over and over until I managed to remove the software update. Now, I can appreciate that a bad update might cause a BSOD, or make the computer restart, but this just causes it to completely switch off. My question really is, can this actually be caused by a rogue update/driver? I've checked all internal cables and connections for anything else that might cause the problem, but everything was fine.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks

Michael.
