Is there a way of getting the HP Management Tools to work under VMWare ESXi?

The software installs fine, it just doesn't pick up the controller or the RAID meaning if we provide this server to one of our customers there would be no way remotely to ascertain a degraded/failed drive.

Any ideas?

What server and RAID controller is it? I have 3 DL380 G4s with 6i controllers - it installed and worked straight out the box.

Did you download the VMware specific agents or the linux ones?

Ive been looking at this same thing today. How werid.

Are you looking to run this in a Windows VM?

Just got into work this morning and checked and the server we've got is also a DL380 but it's the G5 model

We've managed to install the insight manager which displays information about the front panel and the lights out but still cant get the Management Tools to work

What do you mean about the agents?

Sorry mate forgot to mention that it's actually ESXi, does this matter?

If not any ideas how to install the package?

Thanks

Yes it does matter - the main difference between ESXi and ESX is the lack of the service console which is where the agents are installed.

The HP specific ESXi installation should be able to provide disk status, through SNMP if nothing else; You shouldnt need to install any software.

However, the installable ESXi doesnt provide as tight integration as the embedded version, which is provided as a bootable USB stick, designed to go in the internal USB socket.

I'll dig out the part number for it, wasnt much more than 20 quid...

As said, theres a HP Insight edition of ESXi that im currently using with one of our blades. Seems to work fine.

Although i havnt noticed where the 'HP' bit of it is....? :p.
