HP w2207h- USB Problem

This morning I bought a brand new HP w2207h from a local retailer. I made the guy check the screen for me before I left the store to ensure there were no dead pixels. I plugged a usb stick into one of the two monitor ports to run dead pixel buddy. Whichever port I used it worked fine as I recall.
On getting home I find that neither of the usb ports work at all. Are they defective or is there an option to enable/disable them somewhere in the monitor setup?
Thanks.

Though it sounds ridiculous have you plugged in the attached USB link provided with the monitor into your PC first so that there is a connection?

Have you enabled onboard USB ports in the motherboard bios?

Have you installed the latest driver software from the HP website? (the local retail versions are out of date iirc).

Is your machine up to date with windows updates etc. for USB 1.1 > USB 2.0 compatibility?

USB ports work fine on my HP 2408H and Vista 64 Ultimate and XP.

I am such a dumbass, your very first suggestion was the solution I needed. Thank you....very much for taking the time to answer.

How is it? I should have one arriving sometime this week.

Quite frankly the best money I have ever spent on a component. Am very very pleased with it.

I was looking to a 24inch TFT for an upgrade from a 21inch Dell Trinitron CRT and had been looking for a very long time. I was extremely fussy after seeing several various 24inch monitors in the flesh and not being pleased, with either image quality, game playback, looks, known issues etc. (samsung, LG, Hyundai, viewsonic.)

I had eventually narrowed it down to a toss up between the HP 2408H, the new Dell 2408HC and a BenQ.

After taking the BenQ out of the picture, and after reading up on and witnessing the problems with input lag on the new dell I decided to go for the HP.

After reading several great reviews on the HP 2408H and after seeing it working, i decided to get one.

It looks very nice, with a glossy effect.

PC Games are awesome - no ghosting, no input lag, no motion blur, hardware 1:1 interpolation is great if you need it.

Full Hi-Definition playback is fantastic.

The most annoying feature is the fact that the monitor is VGA or HDMI connection only, which I hope you are aware of.

You will either need to purchase a seperate DVI - HDMI cable (e.g belkin.) as this does not come included in the package.

or.

have a DVI - VGA Adaptor to connect to the supplied HP VGA cable.

(assuming your setup is a DVI gfx card.)

Hope you are as pleased with it as I am.

Is definetly one of the best 24inch panels for gaming and movie playback around from my personal experience and from reviews, it is a shame overclockers do not stock it.

Anymore questions give us a shout.

Cheers for that!

It's actually not for me (I have a Dell 2407), it'll be part of a full build for my sister, who won't be using it for games at all, but it's good to know there aren't any problems with ghosting should it be used for games at any time in the future.

I do know about it only being VGA/HDMI, but I wasn't sure of what cables came with it. That's not a problem though - I stuck a DVI-HDMI cable in with a component order for a few extra quid.

One of the main reasons for getting it (aside from the cost - which at ~£280 is quite a bit cheaper than a lot of 24 inchers) was the glossy screen. After getting a laptop (HP as well incidentally) with a glossy screen I realised just how much more vibrant the colours are.

I've read a few reviews (which seem to be quite sparse for some reason) and it seemed good, I just wasn't sure about the viewing angles with it being a TN panel. If viewing angles are really bad (which after the reviews I don't expect them to be) I could always send it back.

Thanks for that little rundown anyway. Any chance you could post a couple of pics of it?

Hopefully pics will work ok.

The camera and my rubbish room lighting really does not do it justice.

The viewing angles don't look bad at all. And who watches TV from the side anyway?

Colours looks great too.

Looks like a good buy, especially considering the price.

Cheers for the pics. :)

Edit: Sorry for completely derailing the thread pete1336. Hope you don't mind seeing as you've got your problem sorted.

Not at all, despite being a berk in the first place I'm happy my problem has been resolved. At 40, it proves to me that the old grey cells are slowing down.
