HP wifi not working?

Had someone drop a laptop to me for fresh windows install and they said to me the wifi never worked on this laptop since the day they bought it. they assumed wifi was an optional extra and just bought and used a usb wifi adapter and used that for 7 years.
can anyone spot why this lappy model came without wifi?

Wow... did they buy this second hand/refurbished or was it brand new? Seems like a bad mistake.

We have seen this before. nothing a wifi usb cant fix though. Very strange.

Brand new from high street store. I was gobsmacked. I couldnt believe it, kept staring at it was just in shock
