Just HPI checked a car I'm interested in and it came up as not clear on HPI. Every important factor such as accident records etc is clear which is my primary concern anyway, but the HPI check says that the vehicle is recoded as having previous plates.

The plate I have searched on seems to be the original as it matches the year of reg, does this just highlight that someone has had a private plate on it at some point or could it be something more sinister?

What's the deal?

Odd, I can't remember the last hpi I done working like that ( I.e clear or otherwise) doesn't it just give you sections with information on declared accidents etc?

I'm sure my car has several plate changes listed where its had private olated on and off. Can look tomorrow if it helps at all as I saved the check

That's reassuring. Would accident damage be linked to the vehicle regardless of plate changes or could a car be crashed, swap back to original plates and the crash be wiped off the HPI check?

Does it even work like that?

when i done a hpi from a car i was buying secound hand from a Main dealer, they said it was hpi clear i did a check any way , mine said change of reg.. so i looked in to it, and it was indeed a private reg, but the dealer was persistent my hpi was wrong. they used experion and was never wrong so i asked them to try it some whre else, they then got the same results as me and complained about it. any way txt the plate reg to 7888 and it will tell you the previous reg, if u then wanted you could hpi that like i did.

The HPi is only flagging up that the reg has something recorded against it and not necessarily the car, take it as a prompt to look into it further as the HPi can only ever tell you so much
