My missus car has been written off by insurance as too expensive to repair. Fair enough.
But during a phone call to her insurance company she discovered it had been written off with a previous owner. This was news to us.

We've been to a dealer today looking for a replacement car and paid a deposit on a 2014 Citreon C3. Dealer assures me this Citreon has a clear history in this respect.

I'd like to do a check on this before coughing up the balance.

Just had a quick google for "Hpi" check. Lots of websites are touting for me to pay them to do a check. Wondering which site I should choose.

Are they all the same thing? Are some sites better than others? Do they get the info from the same central source? Is it worth paying extra to get a more in depth report?

I could do with some advice please.

Many thanks.

HPI and Experian Autocheck - I believe these are the main ones, both using CAP HPI data.

My previous vehicle when purchasing was clear using “Motorcheck” however when trying to part exchange the company found a mileage discrepancy, it was clearly an administrative error from the leasing company but it caused issues. Turns out it was Experian’s data holding this information against the car which is why ever since I’ve used Experian as I believe it to be the most comprehensive check.

Fairly cheap too.

I usually use Vcheck, iirc its £10 but family members have dodged a few written off cars advertised as being fine

Thank you. I'll have a look at those.

My advice is don't buy a c3. There are better cars out there for the money.

We know nothing about cars. Choice was based a lot on immediate availability. No time really to shop around.

here's not a bad place to start.
what are the options/budget?

Thanks for the offer but by paying a deposit I expect it's a done deal. We'll live with it.
Besides, going through that turmoil of finding a suitable car is not something I want to do again.
