Wife went to trade in her car only to find out after garage did HPI check it came back as a class Y - checked with 2 more garages and same thing came up - apparently it means and I hope that I get this right it had been an insurance write off. It hadnt actually been written mechanicaly off, but the insurance company must have decided it was going to cost more to repair than the car was actually worth .It was a suprise but not an issue as my brother in law sold it to us - so he will pick up the bill in respect of the difference to what she would have got and what she actually received.
My question is does this have an effect on your insurance premiums in as much as insurance companies levy an extra hidden charge into your premium merely because you are driving a coded vehicle?
