I've been tasked with looking into and creating a portal site for a company that will have login's for users and will need to have areas for HR type documents, policies, staff training records etc. I've been thinking about sharepoint but as I have a vidahost account does anyone know of something similar or better?

it needs to be a professional/corporate looking package. I'll look at moodle but I dont think google sites will cut it as once it's developed we will be leasing the setup/maintenance out to clients

I have just implemented OrangeHRM but only for holiday bookings. Was a waste of time as there is no company now but... It's open source for the basic version but it's very expensive for the added on modules.

Don't use Moodle for HR stuff it's for a learning environment. I have implemented that too!

you could have a look at how HR Online do it, they are very good.

Everything i've heard about sharepoint, unless you really know what you are doing, is that it's a royal pain in the backside to work with.
