Hiya,

Should I get a shock from a HT lead if I wiggle it on the coilpack while the engine is running?

When I mean wiggle I just mean move it about on the coilpack, not anywhere near pulling it off

I've got a slight misfire problem on my car and am thinking it could be dodgy HT leads.

Cheers

Jon

I think, although theoretically possible, it'd be a fairly extreme case if you died as a result - but I know all to well how much it hurts.

I'd be looking for new leads, but one way you can test is with a water spray bottle, something that gives off a misty spray - and spray it all around the coilpack at night - its likely that you'll then see where its sparking to. It's probably worth giving that a go, as last time I experienced this, it was due to a fine crack on the coilpack casing (Typical VAG coilpack, really)

I'll try this :)

would WD-40 be ok to spray?

So I've put new HT leads on the car. :(

It's nowhere near as bad misfiring as it was but it's still not sorted.

Got to check the AIC Valve isn't clogged next. GAH!! DAMN ALL THESE SENSORS!!?

I've still got the front 02 sensor to check, could be the Knock sensor or the throttle position sensor or......etc.....

Just need to find this tiny problem then I've got an ace sorted car.

yep, done it. Came up with Misfire on cylinders 1, 2, 3 & 4 the 1st time.

The CEL came on again last week so I took it back to the garage yesterday. It said "Idle control system malfunction" The mechanic said it was nothing to worry about......?

Yep, when it's playing up it will almost stall when I'm stopped. Sometimes when I come to a stop and press the clutch pedal the revs stay high for a few seconds and then slowly lower. Seems to do it slower than it should. Could it be running rich?

Today it's been quite juddery when going slowly in 2nd. Like when you're in the wrong gear but normally I can drive like this...

Idle control valve was right scummy. All covered in black mank. All cleaned off then put back in. Still slightly miss firing though :(

Then.........I took the throttle position sensor off.........big mistake! It's a guessing game as to what position it goes back on........arse!
