HT Question, just confussed !!

Ok just a quick question, i overclock my 2.6 to 2.9 ( AM2 ) and it's fine, tweak the memory a bit and i can go faster, but changing the HT from 5 to 4 or 3,2,1 does nothing that i can see.....
I still stop at the same clock speed, it still runs stable/unstable.

My question is HT just used for running HT opmised applications ?? or is there to run loads or stuff at the same time ??

For most apps it wont make a difference, but you should have it as high as possible.
