I'm off to the USA Thursday and I don't want to rack up a huge bill. Can someone confirm this covers all bases: -

Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Network unticked.
Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Data roaming unticked.
Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Enable always-on mobile data unticked.
Menu > Settings > Accounts & sync > Background data unticked
Menu > Settings > Accounts & sync > Auto-sync data unticked

I can't think of anything else.

When I went to Belgium I simply turned 'Mobile Network' off and had Data Roaming disabled.

It didnt use any data at all.

Have a great time heading to LA on Thursday ;)

Same to you have a good flight and trip. I'm staying near Heathrow (Holiday Inn, Bath Rd) on Wednesday to save travelling to Heathrow on the Thursday.

Do this. It shouldn't use any data but ensure you don't have any apps that automatically turn it back on. have a good trip.

If you're really worried there's an app called 3G watchdog that will monitor your data usage. Your settings will work though, just to confirm it.

Just back from a month in the states and this is all I did too and I didn't use any moble data either. There's no need to do anything else.

Btw you guys are coming at a cracking time - we've had a fairly mild summer with morning cloud cover but the last week has been spectacularly good and it's forecast to much the same now for a good while :)

Not if you dont want to use data abroad

Ah i'm a tad confused.

Basically Orange have a number of 'travel packages' available if you're going abroad (cheaper calls etc). But its I need roaming data?

Ooops.

Meant to say, but its saying I need to have roaming data before I can sign up for one of these packages?

Just to be on the safe side, I also changed the username and password in the connection as well so it failed to authenticate if something did try to connect.
