HTC Desire HD SD card issue

Just to give a bit of a back story i had to send my phone back to HTC Which i was very impressed with as i had sent the phone last thursday and received it today all working perfectly. Before i sent it i tried to sync everything to my PC without any success though.

So i moved all of the files i wanted on my internal phone storage over to my SD but I was a little worried when this happened as it reduced the original size to circa 10-20% assuming that it just saved the data that was put on the SD card therefore when I get the phone back I'd just have to reinstall the said apps and bing I'd have all my saved data back but unbeknown to me this hasn't worked.

Since having it back I've put in my SD card and it states that i only have a small amount of storage left which is the exact amount from before but when i install any of the apps it wont show any of the data from my SD card has anyone got any solutions or ways of getting that data back on my phone or working with the phone?

So basically when they got hold of the phone they done a full reset so its back to square 1 again...

P.s As a test before i sent it off and once i sent all the data to the SD card i removed the SD card tried to open an app that was originally saved onto the SD card and it wouldnt open. When placing the SD card back in it straight after it all worked.

put the card in a card reader on your pc and see whats on there?

I wrote a huge thing on this but have decided to condense it to the following: If you re-installed the apps and the appdata didn't come back you can't recover it. It is possible to do this through the use of a program called titanium backup but it requires root.

My advice would be to re-install all your apps as you're doing so and just see what works. If you want to work out what is eating your drive in terms of space then I'd suggest WinDirStat (google it). You probably only have a small amount of storage because the external SD card is small? Percentages mean nothing, we would need sizes to work out more.

Just checking, you copied /internal_sd to /external_sd, reinstalled the apps then copied back /external_sd to /internal_sd right? If not put the order you did it in in this thread.
