Hello OcUK
I'm about to send my Desire off to mazuma. There's a lot of personal information on the phone which I want to delete first, however I can't do anything because the screen is cracked.
Phone will turn on fine etc. just I can't see what I'm doing!
Is there a way of doing a hard reset over USB or something similar?
Cheers.

You can do it via the HTC ROM update utility that runs via the PC, that will wipe it and doesn't require any interaction with the phone itself.

Give this a read, it might make a bit more sense - http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...-update-your-htc-desire-to-android-2-3-986502

But be warned - this is a phone-wiping update that will completely restore your HTC Desire to original factory settings and remove any files, message and apps on it, so if you're attached to your current set-up you may want to think twice about nuking it.

Warning about that update linked.

DO NOT use it unless you really want to stay with gingerbread which is a bit of a hog on the desire.

Once that update is ran you cannot flash back to 2.2 as it upgrades the Hboot and then locks it as well and the other RUU updates will not let you flash back to an older Hboot.

I made the mistake of running that update on my desire and had a pig of a time getting rid of it.

He may.

I doubt they will but what if they just replace the screen and send it back as opposed to replace the whole phone.

In that instance he would be stuck with gingerbread on it whether he wanted it or not.

I felt it was only fair to give him all the info so he can decide for himself which way to go.
