My wife's HTC Desire with Orange contract ran out a couple of months ago and she is now happily using a SG2
however we have now given the phone to our daughter who has a Vodaphone contract
with out trawling through endless threads of (how to)
what is the quickest easiet way to get this phone unlocked

thanks

Can do it for free quite easily, my Desire is now unlocked and was locked to Orange.

Big thread on it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943726

What I did:

Install this driver

Put your desire in HBOOT mode by pressing vol down+power key

Now connect it to pc by micro usb cable

Run the unlocker

It'll reboot the Desire and that's it, unlocked!

Also worked on a T mobile Desire we have.

I also used this and it worked great, very easy to do.

Apologies for revival but what's this gold card rubbish?

Is it literally just as easy as shimmy mentioned and you don't need to buy anything else?

(moved to Toronto and phones are pretty expensive here, considering i'm paying 22.50 a month for a useless phone I'd like to just unlock it and get a new sim here!)

Which network? You might need to move a few radio settings to get the best out of it. A goldcard is basically a microSD card formatted in a special way that makes the phone believe it's being worked on by HTC and thus will allow you to flash it. There's a more technical answer out there I'm sure but that's the basic version :)

There is an official .exe you can get from HTC's developer site that flashes the phone with 2.3.whatever (the version they said would never come to the desire) and unlocks it also.

tried the method listed above....how can I actually tell if the unlock worked other than sticking another networks sim card in it?

Borrowed a mates sim card this morning and couldn't get a signal :(

Any reasons why this wouldn't work or what to do when it fails?

My phone is a UK Orange HTC Desire. Installed the drivers and ran the unlocker with the phone in HBOOT, the unlocker said it was successful! My phone disagrees!

I attempted this today but not having much luck. First time round the ADB drivers went on, ran the unlocker with my phone in HBOOT and it said success....however the phone didn't get any signal with the new sim card.

I realised I didn't have USB debugging on so switched it on and went to install adb drivers again. However it wouldnt install them so I uninstalled the current drivers in order to attempt to install again - this didn't work.

Now in usb debugging mode the phone appears as ADB without the drivers installed and won't let me install them.

Outside of debugging mode the phone appears as a disk drive and it won't let me install the ADB drivers as it says the computer already has the best drivers for it.

I can't see my phone other than listed as a disk drive/mass storage device and it won't let me install the adb drivers now

What can I do :( ?
