I seem to have started having problems with my HTC desire phone. It has a stock vodafone rom (android 2.2.2). It has started to restart itself a lot and also lose signal/get no reception. I have done a factory reset which made no difference. I have also tried running the phone with no SD card inserted thisalso made no difference. What else can i try to fix the issue or do i need to replace the phone now?
Thanks in advance guys.

thanks... your link did not work by the way. Funnily I had downloaded this rom last year and still had it on my work pc :D
I have updated the ROM and will see if it has cured the problem. Thanks for the advice :)

Will this ROM allow me to move more apps over to the SD card? The internal memory is full but I've hardly anything on it.

update: the phone still seems to be dropping signal/reception randomly... has not rebooted yet though.

Root it and put Mildwild v4.3 on it. It's the best rom I have used on my Desire and if you use the right root you can get a lot more system space for apps. 287mb instead of 150mb

the silly phone has started to reboot itself again grrrrrr. From my eyes it seems like it is a hardware problem. As factory resetting and trying a newer ROM (2.2.2 to 2.3.3) has had no affect, can't see how installing a custom ROM would make any difference??.
So it is a case of getting a new phone now.. as the phone is well outside warranty?

If that's the case there is no harm in spending an hour rooting the phone and putting a totally new rom on it. What's the worst that could happen. Give it a go.

I had loads of problems with my original stock roms and then when I upgraded using official Vodafone roms they got better but still did it. I haven't had a rom problem since going to Mildwild 4.3 - apart from running out of memory for apps, but that was resolved when I changed from one HBOOT to AlphaRev CM7 (that gives you a lot more space)

i have no idea on how to root the phone and where to get the ROMs and other stuff from.

I get home from work at 6pm, let me dig out all my stuff and let you know.

Just ensure you back everything up :) nothing can really go wrong with rooting but it's just in case.

i did a bit of googling.. from reading it seems that a motherboard replacement on the phone seems to be the fix for problem. I will try a different sim in the phone, hopefully I have a PAYG sim at home somewhere to rule out a fault on the sim card.

I may have to resort to using my old nokia n96 till I gt a new phone. What would be a good not too expensive replacement for the desire. I was thinking the nexus 4 8GB as it is not too expensive but it seems to be out of stock on the playstore. What are the other alternatives from under £250.. ideally less than £200 please?
