Hi all,

My trusty HTC Desire is on it's last legs. I want to stay Android based and have herd good things about the Moto G - good choice?

I have quite a few android apps so presume I would sign into Google on new phone and then get access to re-download them?

Thank you,

Moto G is a good budget choice. Nexus 5 if you feel like spending a bit more.

Yes you'll automatically get all your old apps when you sign in. You may lose some data on apps that don't sync to the cloud eg saved games.

Perfect, thanks.

Do you think it is worth spending the extra for the 4g model? I'm currently on Giffgaff goodybag and I understand 4G will be available soon.

The fact the 4G version also comes with a micro SD card slot, it's worth spending the extra.

Make sure your contacts are saved on Google contacts and not on the phone itself, so your contacts will easily sync over to the new phone. There should be an option to import them to Google Contacts on the contacts/people app.

Thanks guys :) 4G ordered.

Contacts and apps seem to be easily sorted but i'm guessing old text messages will be lost?
Hmm, moving from Android 2.x to 4.4 you may get problems with the usual backup/restore apps. Other people will probably know more about this.

I use SMS Backup+ which syncs all my txt, mms and call log with my gmail account. It create sms and call log labels under which the items are stored. Also allows easy searching from within gmail.

That should work work fine and allow you to restore. The downside is do you want all this information stored forever by google?

Good point, and the answer is no :)

Will start a blank with text messages, thanks for reply though.

You will be pleased, I just upgraded from an original Desire to the Moto G and the screen is incredible for the money. I didn't realise how much the technology had improved :)
