At first I thought this was plain broken, but it isn't.

If I set weather to 'My Location' it displays 'My Location' as Plymouth, but claims that 'Weather Data is not available'. If I manually select Plymouth from the list of available cities, and then set 'Plymouth' as the city for the weather widget, it displays the weather fine, so clearly it is not the case that 'Weather data is not available'.

I presumed that the location based weather feature was simply broken. This weekend I've been all over - London and Birmingham mostly - and figured I'd try it again.

Most of the time, it actually works - it picks up that I was in, say, Fleet in Hampshire and displays the weather. It picked up that I was (unfortunately) in Dudley, and... displayed the weather. Infact it picked up all sorts of areas (In the space of one evening with the phone not moving it reckoned my GF's house was in about 7 different places including both Cheltenham and later Worcester!) and... displayed the weather.

But now I'm back in Plymouth.

'Weather data not available'.

Why? What gives with this? It didnt work near Kentish Town, either..

I've had this issue with the HTC weather service for ages, on my Hero and again on the Desire. It just doesn't work very well.
It's annoying, but there are better programs out there IMO, Weather Widgets being about the best I find. http://goo.gl/GQDG

Just look out the blooming window.

Thanks for that wonderfully useful peice of advice. Unfortunately as I am not a qualified meterologist I cannot predict the weather in several days time by simply looking out of the window, so I have to fall back on things like the weather application on my mobile phone.

Known bug which they can't be bothered to fixed it seems. Doesn't work in Leicester either. :(

I bothered to purchase the product they made so I don't see why they can't be bothered to fix known bugs, how very strange. It was a brilliant feature I really enjoyed about the phone this weekend yet now I'm back home I have to faff about reconfiguring it to a static location again

I've been looking for something to show me temperature, pressure, precipitation, wind, etc around Portugal and you've found it. Brilliant. :)

Also keep in mind that it only checks the weather every few hours. If you can't get a signal at that time then it will show as a failure. I'm not sure whether it then keeps trying but mine doesn't appear to until the next scheduled check is due.

It's not the only thing that needs fixing though, so it must be further down the todo list. Personally I'd rather they pulled their finger out and got it updated to Froyo before they fix this. :)

Do you have "Use wireless networks" ticked in the phone settings? My weather widgets always flick between random locations when I have it ticked especially when connected to wireless.

It simply never works at home, even if I force it to update, yet the second I joined the M42 it knew I was in Birmingham.

The HTC weather widget is borked, mine constantly switched between torquay, newton abbot, kingskerswell to name but a few places even though I didn't move from 1 spot.

So i ditched it and installed the beautiful widgets app instead, weather widget on that is much better and its skinnable.

That is a good alternative there.

Unfortunately it seems as if HTC are starting to pull widgets that imitate the Sense UI. :(

They should sharpen up and stop making phones for a minute to update the current ones and they wouldn't have a problem :p

Just read the message when opening weather widgets, luckily now will just keep it installed :)

Wondered what you were on about until I fired up the program. I switched to Beautiful Widgets last week mainly because I was bored of the Sense look clock :p

I'm not surprised HTC has moaned, seeing as they are a rip off of their own work.

I would assume the issue is pertaining to the clock though, I would hope it would be back at some point perhaps with no clock or a new clock.
