Heyup,

I had a go on an HTC Desire tonight and loved it, I really fancy one, but I want an HD2 more because of the bigger screen. The Desire just felt a bit small to me.

Only thing is, in the comparison videos on youtube the Desire is much faster than the HD2 at times, which apparantly is down to Android Vs Windows Mobile.

Sooo, any HD2 alternatives running Android? I love the look of the Evo 4G, but it ain't coming to the UK any time soon. :(

Also, not looking to import anything or hack anything about or try installing Android on an HD2, and I only want to spend really what an HD2 would cost, so £30-35 a month ish and free handset.

I think you've already sussed the alternatives... the only realistic alternatives are the Droid X and Evo 4G - neither of which is currently in the UK market.

I've bought a Desire off eBay to tide me over til a phone comes out I really want...

4" Galaxy S or Xperia X10

Only thing larger that I know of over here (except HD2 obviously) is the Dell streak at 5", but it is a bit "too" big as a phone.

I read that the Streak is over 150mm long, so yeh that'd just be too big for me really.

The Galaxy S looks good to me. Any owners on here?

I'm actually wondering about the HD2 now, is Windows Mobile really that much worse than Android?

whole threads of both galaxy s and x10 owners. both with 4" screen and both far better than windows 6.5

WM is not worth considering imo (unless you wait for WM7 of course...) wm6.5 has no benefits over android and many negatives

go try them all some more in shops

I've been reading. Of those two I reckon it'll be the Galaxy S though, I shall go and try them out at some point. :D

put android on it, my mate did with his htc hd.

Already said that's not really an option for me. I'm going to need insurance I reckon, and no doubt it'll void the warranty.

The Galaxy S may have 0.3" less screen space, but it uses the same res, it looks much clearer and more vibrant, and the blacks look far better, the battery life sounds much better, and of course it has Android.

Pretty sold on it. Just need to go and try one.

Now, last thing, (I promise), any advice on how to get the cheapest contract?

Galaxy S is easily your best choice here :)

Mobiles.co.uk is probably the best place online for them, haven't checked everywhere though.

That won't void the warranty so you dont have anything to worry about there. All you are doing is running it from the SD card. The WM Rom still stays intact.

Yeah to run Android on the HD2 all you do is copy the files to the memory card and run an exe to load it... Nothing much in the way of hacking and it won't void a warranty.
