Yes i know there is an old HD2 thread but i dont think anyone will ever open it so i thought i would ask here.

My dad has an OSF but hes struggling to read text on it due to his "getting bad" eyesight.

He also complains about how small the on screen keyboard is. So i thought it would get him a nice 4.3 inch phone for Xmas, Unfortuantley i only work part time right now so im strapped for cash.

A mate of mine had a HD2 that HTC sent him by accident about 8 months ago, hes willing to let it go to me for £70 (its been in his drawer waiting for HTC to contact him and retrieve it but they never did and 8 months is more than enough) so i just want to ask how the HD2 stacks up today with android.

Obviously its about 2 years out of date but looking at the specs (1GHZ snapdragon CPU) it still seems at least on par with something like a Desire. Am i right in saying that Android works flawless on it?

Hes used to Android so i would need to put that on, is it an easy procedure? And will it run Android better than a Sanfran with CM7 on it? (hes never complained about lag or speed just about the small screen)

Thanks

Yes it works flawlessly and the irony is a non Android phone is getting the latest version faster than other handsets.

However its worth noting that:

A) It wont charge when turned off
B) There is very little internal space of apps
C) GPS lock can be VERY slow
D) Battery life under use drops like a stone

Overall though Id say its worth what you have been offered it at.

A) What happens when its got no juice to even turn on?
B) not to much of a problem comapred to a san fran!
C) He wont use GPS at all
D) How bad is bad? Are we talking mess around with it for more than an hour a day and its dead?

Thanks

It will charge if you don't use Magldr instead use CLK,
Never had an issue running anything from my MSD card, used Apps2SD or something similar
GPS for me locks within about 20 secs at max
Battery life can be a good couple of days with a good amount of hammer

All in all it does work flawlessly once installed, just getting that far is a little more involved and not being able to use ROM manager. All that said it stacks up well and has a good screen. For £70 I would defo have a go! ICS is on its way also :-)

A great device that you can also run WP7 and a load of other linux distros on aswell

Hope that helps.

Got android up and running (although i used Magldr ) DOH

i guess being able to charge while phone is a no no now? (if not can i change to CLK or is it too late)

Hope there is a stable ICS by xmas as it would be ncie to give my dad an ICS HD2 for xmas :D

Overall seems much better than Sanfran although screen colours (espec black) are kinda meh... £70 though :D

Which flavour of android are you running?

Got Coredroid Froyo 1.7 on mine and CM7 on the wifes (his'n'hers phones, sad or what!)
