My contract is up for renewal in the next few months, so I'm starting to consider a replacement for my One X. Is there likely to be a replacement for the One anytime soon? I've done a bit of Googling and can't find any reference.

After my Desire and then the One X, the One seems to be a logical upgrade, but I don't want to purchase if it's about to be superseded.

I've just bought the One Max... it's going back.

htc have included a micro sd card slot this time around, great I thought, the only problem is they've made the back removable and it's the most fiddly thing I've ever had to try and replace, when you eventually get it sat back on it's not the best fit and at £588 off contract that's not acceptable.

Nice phone but not with that build quality and price point.

HTC One is a great phone, but the N5 is cheaper (SIM free) and has a more powerful processor. The One has great speakers and some might prefer the feel (aluminium vs plastic) - also a great low light camera if you find yourself in that situation a lot.

Best advice is to go check out both in store, but don't worry about the HTC One replacement as it'll be March/April next year before that arrives. If HTC are still in business by then!
