This would be a big upgrade for me and i would def be keeping it the full 2 years on any contract, but am wary will the 1gb ram be enough as at moment i am using a htc desire z which has 500mb ram and free to phone 368mb and it always seems to be loading refreshing main screen when i used few things i presume this is a ram issue as half of time only has 50mb spare to play with sometimes less

And dont want same issue other than that i no it will be a fantastic upgrade

As i also looking at the rumours of galaxy s3 we it having 2gb ram would be a big advantage when having certain amount of apps running

I'm not sure if you have ever tried out different ROMs or whatever on your Desire Z, but I have certainly tried a wide amount of ROMs out to see what can be done.

Results have been pretty awesome really. Some ROMs leaving me with 100MB+ to play around with, meaning little to no slow-down at all.

That all said though, the One X will be a MASSIVE upgrade to this thing. I myself am going to be receiving my One X next week (hopefully). Really, I can't even see the Desire Z keeping up with this thing, and I can't wait to give it a bash :D!

Check the XDA forums for this, you need to go through the process of rooting your phone, installing an app, performing the backup, and then going to town with whatever ROM you feel like it.

I would highly suggest that you read up about this sort of thing before you commit to it though. It isn't exactly rocket science, but it might be a bit mind bending at first. I know I had some issues with it to start, but turns out I just wasn't reading the guides correctly.

Have started already we me thinking of upgrading from next week i might just pass but thanks for tip, as ill prob try sell this one and don't want to accidently mess it up lol

Well, if you are planning on selling it on after an upgrade, I would probably just leave it alone.

Whilst it is all easy to undo and return to stock, it is just not worth it if you have the upgrade option at hand.

Difference between 1gb and 2gb on current gen Android is close to zero, don't consider it an issue as it isn't one. There are (not public) testers with all types of stuff like this on, it's generally agreed there is close to no benefit due to how the manager works on Android.

It would take larger apps for this to be of benefit and as cheap Androids (aka the ones that sell in bulk) don't have it, app makers don't make apps which need the huge amounts. While this seems like a catch 22 over time phones generally go up so there's a slow migration but it's no big deal. If Samsung do move to 2GB it will be more likely because Samsung can get DRAM for cheap as balls and it looks good rather than ICS et al needing this amount honestly.

I don't know too much about Android but it might make sense to look at what sort of RAM android phones 2 years ago had and how they perform nowadays as a very rough idea?

The top end mobiles 2 years ago were the desire and the nexus one and then later on the galaxy S, they all have 512MB of RAM and even today they are still very good (especially with a custom ROM), smooth and fast, however, my bro's desire is very laggy (he uses stock sense 2.2), but I am pretty sure that is down to sense.

I agree, custom roms can make a huge difference to the performance of the phone. It's not how much RAM you have, it's how much you use. Custom roms have this nailed.

The OneX has 2.11Gb of RAM, don't know if that helps with the decision process....
