I've just bought an HTC Radar for the grand sum of £80, and I have to say (even compared to my Lumia 800) I'm impressed.

It feels incredibly premium for such a cheap phone, and it's nice to see that the promises of front-facing cameras for the next gen Windows Phones is starting to trickle through.

Bit disappointed by the display contrast, although coming from the lumia with it's very high contrast display, this is to be expected.

Not sure wether to keep it or move it on yet, but I'd definitely recommend it to someone looking for a cheaper (yet decent quality) handset.

The Radar has has some fantastic reviews and is probably one of the best examples of what makes WP great. Even on lower spec hardware it runs very well and delivers a high quality user experience.

Where did you get it from?

I work for a mobile phone recycler and purchase phones at roughly the trade-in rate. So whilst it's "used", it's unmarked and what we class as "A Grade" (we grade from A to D), no box, but I'm not fussed :)

Pretty much the only perk of the job, but still...

I've been thinking of getting one as well, as I like the look of WP.

Are there any other differences between this and your Lumia 800 except the screen & the extra 8gig storage? I know the Lumia is 400Mhz quicker, but by the sounds of things it doesn't make much difference

I prefer the curved glass on the lumia, and the layout of the hardware buttons, but you don't notice the extra CPU speed unless you go looking to stress the device. I'd probably miss nokia drive (built-in satnav) if I was using the Radar as my main phone, but if you've never had (nor want) it, then you wouldn't be missing it. The general consensus in the office is that the Radar actually feels more of a premium device (mostly due to the slightly higher weight, and the fact that it's a metal unibody as opposed to plastic).

Cheap phone? Its £260-£280 new and it goes for £170 or thereabouts on ebay.

£80 is a bargain :)

Not even looked at how much they go for, I'm surprised we're only offering such a low amount for them then!

He's considering keeping it, not replacing his Lumia with it...

Precisely, this would replace my 2nd phone (which at the moment I'm back on my Nexus One, as the Girlfriend has my HD7, and I can't stand my Atrix).

You think it feels more premium than the Lumia? Cool.

I love the look of the Lumia, but the battery is supposed to be pretty poor.

Slightly more-so, yes. As I say, this is down to the feel of the raw materials more than anything else, but it's the opinion of the 7 or 8 guys that sit near me, so I'm not in the minority.

I've actually never experienced the battery issues that some lumia owners experience, mine easily lasts a day, if not almost 2 days, but the HTC is supposed to have a much increased standby and talktime battery life (helped by the fact that it's 1520mAh against the Lumia's 1450mAh).

Really impressed with the "camera modes" function, and wish my Lumia had them. The panorama stitching mode is fantastic!
