HTC Touch Diamond, New Flagship Model...

Just ordered mine from Orange 12 month contract £33 for 400 minutes and i think 500 texts, getting it delivered tomorrow, and because I am an existing Sim Only customer I got the phone for free rather than pay the £70 I'd have to pay if I was a new customer. So over the 12 months will only cost me £396 which is cheaper than buying it Sim free which is what I'd normally do.

I phoned yesterday but they were apparently out of stock. My current spend is no less than £42 a month and was willing to go on an 18month contract for the same spend but they said it would cost me £70 for the phone. I said there is no way Im paying £70 for the phone as my spend for 18 months would be nigh on £800 so I could buy the phone sim free and spend the rest on a 12 month contract.

and your spending £42 a month with Orange??

You need to get put through to the retentions team, as that's where I ended up, I didn't even ask for the phone charge to be waved, I asked at the end how he wanted me to pay the £70 and he said there would be no charge as it was considered an upgrade, I'd been on a Sim only plan at £25 since last september.

Also what time did you phone as they didn't get their stock in for existing customers until 13:00, they only had stock for new customers prior to that as their existing customer system hadn't been updated.

Heads up Quidco are giving £150 cash back on new Orange pay monthly contracts until Sunday.

Apart from the risk of not getting the cashback or the credit check failing is there anything stopping you getting a number of these phones and selling the others on brand new? On a £20/month 12 month contract without data they look like buy two get one free to me :).

I phoned again and they were out of stock but the woman on the line was very nice and admitted that on my current spend, I would get the phone for free. Amazed by the fact it depends on who answers the phone that makes it all the easier. :) They are going to put one aside for me and text me when they come in apparently.

Those of you who have got these phones, what is the touch screen like for texting. Is it anywhere near as quick/easy as a keypad???

I'm interested in this phone - for the high resolution web browsing more than anything. I’d also like to hear opinions on how easy text entry is. I’m coming from the QWERTY E61i.

Other questions – what GPS software (if any) does it come with?
Is the battery life as shocking as some of the reviews suggest?

It's a bit slow.... trys to hard to be an iphone, but is bearable. To be honest I think i'd prefer it without the touchscreen for texting as I need to use the stylus to do most things.

Mine (orange) didn't come with any at all, but tomtom and Igo both work.

just went through vodafone retention and have one of these coming tomorrow. free on a 12 month and reduced my package by £10 per month with same mins, unlimited data and cheaper intl calls! Obviously paying too much before...

posting from my new touch diamond. absolutely great now xda tweaks for speeding it up are in place. slow before but great now.No more Nokia's for me!

Can be had for £350 on Ebay... i'm almost tempted as I need a good browsing phone... but the screen just seems small, and the lack of a 3.5mm input\SD slot really gets my goat. I need a good browsing phone. :(

What did you do exactly?

Well i can tell you, There is a stand alone program that edits some registry settings etc etc on the phone.
IT might well be the same one that is used for the kaiser called, suprisingly, Kaiser tweak.

The kaiser is "slow" because it runs on very conservative settings for almost everything as standard, (disregarding the 3d drivers).
I would imagine the diamond might have similar issues.
