Ok, the other thread was getting huge with no one really answering the multitude of questions, so here's my new question.

How the hell do i upgrade the rom on this damned thing?
Currently on 1.37.161.2 WWE, dated 06/26/08

Went on touch diamond download site, keyed in my serial number for the rom upgrade and it said my device wasn't compatible with this upgrade (or something to that effect)

WTH!

Also, i can't uninstall ifonz, which is also a bag of manure!
I could do a hardware reset, but any advice would be greatly appreciated cos this thing sucks nasal juice!

ps. what about the 3rd party/unofficial roms, they any good?

If your happy to put a third-party/unofficial ROM on it, then head over to www.xda-developers.com and into the forums for all the info you need.

I'm personally running Dutty's 2.2 ROM and the phone is brilliant to use!

Thanks Meeko. Yeah i pop into xda devs every so often, will take another gander.
So Dutty's 2.2 rom? what make it good? Is it fast and responsive, cos mine is ridiculously slow?

I upgraded my rom with the one from the orange site (mine came from orange)

Much better now :) xda-devs confused and angered me.

The xda-devs forums look like the place to be for this sort of stuff so I started to read a little after an hour my head was hurting!
Although my MDA from T-Mobile isnt here I wanted a headstart and try and figure it out, theres a idiots guide at the top of the page but even then.........
From what ive read doing a backup? then a HardSPL is the way to go then update the ROM? I guess someone will be along to put me right !!

K.Jacko - yeah, the phone flies now compared with when it was on the standard O2 ROM. In fact, I was ready to send the phone back after about 2 hours when I was using the original ROM as it was soooo sluggish. But, since I've updated the ROM to Dutty's (and also used SwiftBL 6.5) it has been very responsive. Don't get me wrong, it still has the occassional slow down, but these are few and far between (best way I could describe them is like the random brief slowdowns that seems to affect a Windows desktop system for no apparent reason - seems this foible is a Windows (no matter what version) feature! :P)

I agree with what mikeossy and Jono are saying about xda-devs making your head hurt after reading it for an hour. I was very apprehensive about updating the ROM on my phone at first in case I bricked it, but, I took my time, read through some of the How-To's on xda-devs and everything went painlessly. Since the first time, I must have updated my ROM a good 9 or 10 times now (trying out diffrent versions/upgrades etc) and not once had a problem.

If I get a chance this evening, I will post links to the exact guides I used (although I am playing footy tonight so it depends what time I get in)

Thanks for the input guys, i too was scratching my head at xda-dev forums. The read me guides are thorough, but also extremely long and you can easily get lost and forget what hte hell you're doing.
I spoke to HTC and they said that cos i'm with vodafone i have to go to their website and download their latest rom. Its 99MB . So i'll do it at the weekend probably. Does upgrading the rom wipe out everything?
I suppose i'll have to re-install Vodafones satnav then, which is a free 18month subscription :) and mighty impressive imho.

Cheers

Just recieved mine today which is actually the MDA as its on t-mobile its ok but then slows down for no apparent reason ill have a look at xda over the weekend and see if I can figure out what to do?
Loving it so far though!!

Right, now i can no longer get a data connection. It simply won't turn on in 'Connection Manager' so i rang vodfaone who said all my settings were correct.
Soooo.....gonna put the newer official rom on it which will wipe it anyway and see whats happens. If it doesn't fix it, then this will be the 2nd diamond i will have sent back.

neil3k, thanks for the link buddy. :)
