Don't know which games yet (which does not help i know) this is for a friend he is happy to spend 1000 / 1500 possibly more but i dont want to tell him best performance will be 16 core / 2080ti when really thats not much better than a standard 8 core 2070

8 core current gen CPUs and the best GPU you can get.
It's predominantly GPU you need , but I also noticed s big jump going from a 4770k to a Ryzen 2700x, not much difference when I then upgraded to a 3900x
