Hi guys, great start to CES with a headset announced by HTC with all the features we've been asking for. No word on price yet and I've had word the first batch will be extremely limited stock (like 50 units for us...).

Word is that at the moment its planned to be a standalone so it is mainly an upgrade for existing users who already have all the peripherals. I'll see about making a bundle with what peripherals we stock such as cables, lighthouse towers, controllers, etc. but this will probably cost more than an official bundle I assume will be released in time for peak season.

Timescale I've been told Q1 but take with a pinch of salt.

Ah I didn't realise this was a standalone and will use existing base stations, controllers etc. but seems like price will make it a harder swallow that many will like.

Will you be getting these the same time as the HTC Store (probably via the company that managed to make a meal of the original Vive distribution back in April 2016)? Is your intention to sell at RRP, assuming such a thing exists (i.e. match the HTC store)? How do you confirm existing ownership? Or is that just a way of saying that it's not any use to people who don't already have the wands and lighthouses?

Yes all things going well.
We will have them available to pre-order at the RRP.
They will only be useful to people with the other peripherals necessary for an HTC VIVE to work initially. The peripherals are all available separately and I will make a bundle for those individuals who want to buy it as a complete package. But my advice would be to wait for an official bundle as I assume it will be slightly if not significantly cheaper overall.

I'm almost certain VR isn't a fad but it still needs to come a long way for me to be interested in it, it'll be great one day with a wheel playing something like Forza Horizon though.

Assuming it's not a cost issue, in which case, fair enough. Otherwise, if it's something something something tech.... You are so missing out ESPECIALLY for games that involve driving with a wheel or flying with a HOTAS. These are amazing. I didn't think I'd like ETS2.. but... yeah. The level of immersion and presence added by the Vive is astounding. I've had one for close to two years now and I'm still either playing it every day or wishing I was playing it every day.

I should also add that assuming RRP of the Vive Pro is not stupid crazy, then I'll be ordering via Overclockers.

I hope that what I see is not what is intended for the price point of a stand alone headset....

That description does say "Latest SteamVR Tracking System" so that would suggest it includes sensors, and therefore surely controllers. If none of the above, well, that's bad news indeed. :(
