The HTC Wildfire brings Android technology to the budget smartphone sector. Incorporating the latest version of Android and HTC Sense plus a superbly responsive capacitive touchscreen, the Wildfire is both easy to use and supremely powerful, with access to thousands of apps. Combined with a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, a media player, GPS, Google Maps, fast internet, a fast processor, plenty of memory and a big battery, this is quite probably the best smartphone in its price range.
Features of the HTC Wildfire include:

* 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash
* Video recording (3GP format)
* Display: Capacitive touchscreen with pinch-to-zoom capability, 240 x 320 pixels (3.2 inches) with auto-rotate
* GPS receiver with digital compass, Google Maps, HTC Footprints and geo-tagging
* Music player (aac, .amr, .ogg, .m4a, .mid, .mp3, .wav, .wma formats)
* FM radio

Do want , looks like an excellent upgrade from my samsung jet

Any prices for this yet? Would need to be a good chunk cheaper than the Desire otherwise there isn't much point in it being released :p

Unless its one for the ladies ;)

Just quickly checked the Vodafone plans, 24 month contracts at £20-30 per month. It best be cheap on PayG :p

It doesn't appeal to me really for those prices, you can get a Desire for a fraction more and on an 18month contract. That said, Mobilephonesdirect etc might be able to get it out cheaper.

As I said, one for the ladies perhaps ;)

(For the record :p I wouldn't be getting one anyway, but if I was, it wouldn't appeal)

Anyone got some insight into the differences between the Wildfire and the Legend? I'm wanting to move from my battered 5800 to an Android phone but still have a few months on my contract, so figured I buy a new SIM-free handset and then either upgrade/sell on my upgrade handset a few months down the line.

Desire is a little pricey SIM-free (given I could probably get one free in a few months) but the Legend is more affordable and ticks the right boxes for me. However, with this a month or so away and being touted as a "mini Desire" £100 cheaper than a Legend, it's quite tempting. Anyone clarify which I should be going for it?

I'm guessing with the HTC Smart being around £90-£100 that this will be around £200 on payg which for me is too close to Desire pricing, I'm sure it'll hold some appeal in stores where Desires are £400+ contract free

Love to know where you can get a Desire for much less than £400 contract free. £230 (pre-order price) for the Wildfire seems pretty attractive to me...

£285 from O2 retentions, just find someone with an O2 contract and get them to order one for you etc.

Failing that you can find one for about £300-320 around the net.
