Afternoon folks.
Me and the other half are thinking about ditching cable and using xbmc as our replacement, we just can't warrant paying for the junk we have on virgin.
I do abit of light gaming on a moderate gaming Pc I'll be selling to fund this project so 1080p gaming capability is still a must, I was thinking steam os but didn't want to feel restricted.
Naturally the unit has to be small pref black and ofcourse quiet but I understand any limitations.
Budget in the region of 400-600.
Don't require peripherals.
Hope you guys can help.
Cheers.

Hehe thanks for the reply. I'm trying to think of a comparison hehe. Well it's going in the living room so hopefully quiet enough not to distract, erm I have the ps4 and that is quiet enough.

Intel Build

You could probably save more money on the AMD build by swapping out the H55 for a cheaper air cooler.

I haven't included any hard drives because I don't know your storage requirements. Needless to say there's plenty of wiggle room in the budget for chopping and changing, even getting it way under £500 with some small compromising.

I'm leaning towards the amd, I've been Intel for a while currently have a 3570k but itx mobos seem to be almost obsolete otherwise I would recycle.
I'm thinking ssd boot and maybe a 1tb hdd. The system would be active for about 10 hrs a day, not sure how that affects hdd life but figured it could be important.
Thanks so far for your builds tele.

No problem, there's also other GPU options depending on how much gaming you expect to do and what sort of settings you'd like to run.

You can pick up a used GTX 660 for about £90 that will still play pretty much anything at 1080p. very cool and quiet running as well even in small cases.

I have a collection of about 40-50 blu rays. I also have a steam account with a relatively healthy library. Obviously I won't be putting all the blu rays onto the hdd.
I'm also a newcomer to xbmc so not sure how or why storage space would as important as Im guessing I'll be streaming most content.
