Hi all,

A while ago I used some old components I had laying around to build myself a HTCP in a Silverstone Grandia GD07, only thing I had to buy was a new GFX for it, which was the Sapphire Radeon HD6450 2GB DDR3 card. The motherboard I am using is my old one, a Gigabyte P35C-DS3R with some DDR2 Memory.

Now though, I recently upgraded my main PC so now have some other items laying around and here is my question.

Would my old GFX, Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5 be better then the HD6450 for a HTCP ? If so what motherboard would you recommend me to buy to swap out the GA-P35C-DS3R I am having now, since I pretty sure the 5770 wont work on that old mobo.

I also have a i5 laying around I can use instead of the Intel Core 2 Duo I having in it now.

Actually, reading back what I just typed, my best option might be buying a new mobo and installing the 5770 (or still use the HD6450 since it do say on the package that it has DDR3 or GDDR5 memory  ) with some DDR3 memory and the i5 instead of using the old stuff. :o

So, what mobo would you experts recommend for a HTCP build ? Or any other suggestions as what to do ??

Thank you for reading this and I be appreciating all comments and suggestions! :D

PS: Would my old Corsair HX520W be enough to run it all on ?

I would keep as is, unless you want to game on the the system and want the extra performance boost then upgrade to the i5. Alsothe 5770 should have no issue working in your current C2D motherboard.

And the Corsair PSU will be ample.

Edit:

You did not mention what i5?

Thank you for your reply RJC, much appreciated. =)

It is a Intel i5-2500 3,30 GHz, socket 1155. And thanks, I did try and find out if the 5770 could work in that mobo but couldn't find any definitive answers on Gigabyte's website. I may just pop the 5770 in then and use the DDR3 memory in that mobo as well, since there is 2 slot for DDR3 there as well. That is if the 5770 is a better card then the HD6450 for this kind of use ?

And no, no plans on gaming on it, it's connected to my TV for movies and HD/BluRay movies. :D

Actually, been having a re-think and could do with a slight upgrade on this one in case my main PC would break down, that way I have something not to shappy to fall back on, until main one been fixed. :)

With that in mind, which mobo would you guys suggest to for a 1155 chip ?
