I currently use a toshiba 32wl66 and it's nice but the low res is well a pain so im toying with getting something like an lg or sony bravia w series, i believe they have low input lag and use ips panels.

Is there really much of a difference between these and a dedicated monitor or is it just apples and oranges?

Personally I find that my Panasonic PZ80 plasma through HDMI at 1920x1080 to be better than any monitor i've ever had, especially with no screen lag and 1,000,000/1 contrast ratio. I can't speak for LCD's but I would imagine one of the latest bravia's would be really nice at 1920x1080, and more than a match for all but the top end dedicated monitors. I used to use a Toshiba 37" C3030 as a monitor, which looked pretty good but as you say 1369x768 was a bit too low at that size. 1080 gives you more than enough desktop space and a nice resolution for gaming with virtually no jaggies.

+1 On the above i also have a PZ80 as my main Tv. I plug in my Pc quite often and the picture is stunning. The fluidness of games is way beyond any Lcd..

So if this is the case where do companies like dell and hp get off charging so much for a measly 24" screen bar the higher res of course, im assuming as the tv is mass marketed margins are much tighter?

Parents have a 42" g15 panasonic plasma, i think im going to have me some fun tomorrow with the laptop. :D

Cheers guys had a feeling they'd be good screens.

Let us know how it goes :)

my wife uses a Sony KDL40w4000 for her 'monitor' in the main front room. Never has any problems doing anything on it.

I have a Samsung 42" Monster and tbh i dont think its that good all round. The gaming is brilliant, movies are brill but the basic stuff such as fonts and the OS on Win7 seem to be slightly blurry. I don't sit right infront of it, about 5ft back but its 42", but its not that cracking.

Using a HD 5770. Maybe some duff settings but all is on default and running through HDMI. But im looking for another monitor.
