html layout cols

Im a total novice when it comes to all these divs and tables.

Im browsing the net for a simple 3 colum layout with header n footer but the 3 colums ive found are like all equal size or the one in the centre is the biggest.

Im looking for the left colum to be the biggest and the other 2 (middle and right) to be the same size AND ADJUSTABLE by px or %

hard to explain...basically a swop but i have no idea how to ;/
