HTPC - 1920 X 1080 LG 42" LCD - cut off half of task bar

Folks,

This is the first time I have connected a PC to my LG 42 LCD TV. I run other devices to it through an Onyko HDMI system such as PS3, DVD player, Sky HD etc.

I built a Mini ITX system using an Antec ISK300-150, ASRock E350 mobo, 8GB Kingston Hyper-X memory, OCZ Vertex 3 SSD, Windows 7 64-bit.

Anyhow, it all runs fine but I notice in Windows, half of the task bar is chopped off at the bottom. Now all other devices display fine so I tried to look for settings on the GPU within Windows to change size of screen but can't find anything. My TV is set to 16:9 so I cycled through available settings and found "Just Scan". When choosing this setting, it displayed correctly.

However, the next time I reboot (next evening), it reverts to 16:9 and I have to manually choose "Just Scan" in the TV settings to display correctly.

Has anybody else had this issue? Is there a solution other than what I am doing? It's not really a major issue because watching films is OK, just an annoyance.
 
The edge of your picture is being cut off overscan. TVs by default stretch an image by 5% (overscanning) which goes all the way back to CRT with analog TV days when displays didn't have fixed pixels like modern displays. For some reason it's still default today :confused:. What you done is exactly the right option, use your TVs 'Just Scan' option, which turns off overscan (ie. 1:1 pixel mapping.) My LG TV remembers the setting however. Have you tried updating your TVs firmware?
 
I had the same problem (LG TV not remembering overscan). I asked their support department and they said there was no way to get round it using the TV hardware.

So I adjusted overscan in my Radeon's GPU settings. Since your mobo has built-in Radeon graphics, then I imagine you might have this option too.

Thanks for the info - useful to know and glad it's not specific to me :) I haven't updated the firmware, not sure how to. I have an LG 42-LD450, got it about 15 months ago.

Ok - thanks. I'll take a look in the ATI control panel. It's an onboard GPU, part of an ASRock Mini ITX E350 mobo. It is a Radeon 6310.

BTW - I used the display drivers that came with the CD/mobo, think it was dated March 2011. Is there any harm in downloading the latest from ATI or does the onboard GPU require special drivers?

Download the latest drivers. Once you have the latest catalyst sofwtare you can then update from within that. It will prompt you when new ones are available.

Support&Drivers - component category:desktop graphics - product line E-Series APU - then select either auto detect or E350 series - then windows version and you're away.
