HTPC advice needed

Hi.
I'm new to these forums so if I've posted this in the wrong place, please forgive me

I'm looking at the possibility of building a HTPC in the very near future. I have also been considering the Apple TV which I like because of the ability to play iTunes purchased content (movies mainly) and the ability to buy/rent movies also.

Would you go for the HTPC option or the Apple TV?

HTPC is best bet for flexibility in the long run. I am using a Shuttle barebones with XBMC for most media and it is working excellently! It all depends on what you want. If you want it to be flexible and to be able to play any file type and use applications also, then go with a PC. If you want a convenient consumer device, then go for the Apple. Bear in mind that the PC will be easily upgradeable with different optical drive types and hard drives etc. and will also have the future option of an HD Freeview card for recording.
