Hey, this thread is a continuation to my previous thread:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17919928

I've put together this HTPC spec, based on fobose's advice, and I'd like to know:

1. Will it be strong enough for software HD decoding?
2. What do you think of its components? Would you replace any? Can you come up with a better setup money-saving wise, yet still good peformance? (mainly Chipset & CPU)

Athlon 64 X2 5400+ 2800MHz

Gigabyte GA-MA78GPM-DS2H

Mushkin DDR2 2048MB (1024MBX2) 800MHz CL 4-4-4-12 ES

Western Digital 640GB WD6400AAKS

ANTEC NSK2480 380W PSU

Thanks lads for your advice! :)

I'd only really suggesting getting an AMD X2 4x50e series processor as cooler and are only 45W at full load. Unfortunately overclockers don't sell them so would need to source elsewhere.

You can do Bluray decode on a 780G board with an AM2 Sempron so perfectly capable of doing the decode as will be offloaded to the 780G IGP.

Consider the Asus Xonar 1.3 HDAV to get the full sound out rather then just the 5.1. However that really depends on how fussy you are and what connected to.

I thought of that, but seeing that the 4850e is sold for a mere 50 ILS (about £8) difference, I'd rather have more power (300MHz) than less watts/heat (20W). Does 20W (5400 - 65W) make a huge difference when it comes to cooling? I surely and obviously know it will get hotter, but by what degree?

Also, I've just noticed, GB states the MB is 24.4X24.4, while Antec states it supports MicroATX up to 9.6"X9.6". (about 24.38X24.38 cm.) Do you reckon it'll be tight?
