Hello all,

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, this is my first post and being new to the PC building am some what of a noob, so please bare with me...

I have recently built a new HTPC (see full specs below)... Now it is for the most part working a treat and I am very happy with it...

I do have one little niggle, I am running from the onboard HDMI port to HDMI on my LCD. My problem is that if I change back to watch sky (through scart) on the LCD and leave it that way for a certain amount of time, then try to go back to the HDMI port to view the HTPC (pressing av button and scrolling through till I reach HDMI), I get a blank screen and have to reset every time (does not come to life after key press and I know it is running as if left will record stuff that I have setup for later in the evening)... Now, I have tried turning off screen savers, and played with power options (all currently set to never), but no joy... Have also looked through the ATI catalyst options and through the BIOS but still can find nothing that may help with this... Any help or advise you can give on this would be very much appreciated (and I hope it's clear - apologies if this is all babble)...

Config:
Case :- Antec NSK2400 MATX
MoBo :- Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD
CPU :- Int E4400 2.00GHz - Overclocked to 2.66 on stock HS & Fan
RAM :- Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2 6400/800 - Will add another gig shortly
HD :- 160GB Western Digital
HD :- 500Gb Samsung Spinpoint
Tuner :- Hauppauge WinTV-HVR3000
Media :- Optiarc (Sony/NEC)AD-7170S-0S silver
Input :- Trust W'less KB built in Trackball
OS :- XP home SP2
:- Mediaportal
Display :- Sharp Aquos LC-32P50E

Again any assistance will be very greatfully recieved

Anyone have any ideas on this or experienced anything similar, I do believe now that the issue is with the LCD screen as as soon as I switch inputs I can no longer go back to HDMI... Thanks...

I don't know if this related, but I have seem something similar with devices connected over HDMI seeming to loose "handshaking" with the TV when switching to a HDMI input which already has an incoming signal. So whilst the device is still working and is outputing video the TV just will not display anything from the device, (no signal error). Normally power cycling the TV whilst on the input in question allows it to "pick up" the signal again but it is irritating.

May be worth trying as it would probably be better than hitting reset on the HTPC.

Thnaks for the response guys,

Does sound like your screen is causing the headache. Do you have a DVI/VGA input? Does it do the same when switching between this connection and SCART?

No DVI or VGA inputs I'm afraid, going from HDMI port on Mobo to HDMI on LCD, and yes same thing happens when switching to scart then back to HDMI...

Have tried powering off the LCD but still not picking up the signal...

Reseting is the only thing that works and as you can imagine is becoming extremely infuriating...

Anyone know of any little tools in Windows or downloadable, that will force repost of graphics (which I guess is all thats hapening when I reset???)...

Again, Thanks,

Its an odd one, nothing obvious come to mind other than the usuals..... Update all drivers to the latest for your motherboard and gfx, do some googling on your specific LCD to see if you can find any similar problems, also check for manufacturer forums.

Maybe try swapping cables?

I've just purchased the same motherboard for a new HTPC for my new samsung 1080p LCD, so I'll let you know if I get any similar problems.

Good Luck!

Hi dhehir,

Just got my setup running and had the same problem you did. When switching sources between HDMI and anything els it would seem to lock out the HDMI my HTPC was on.

The fix was fairly straight forward though, don't use the drivers installed by default with vista, get the correct ones from the abit site as once the correct drivers are installed it works fine. N.B. Vista also didn't install the HDMI audio driver so I had no sound through HDMI until I downloaded and installed that also.

Hope this helps,
