Been thinking of setting up a HTPC,Do you guys think that something like an AIO board solution which has an Intel Gemini Lake N4120 Celeron would be enough for playback of 1080P & possibly 4k? (although 90% of the time it would be 1080P or lower)

The Celeron in question has 4 cores,4 threads with a burst of 2.6Ghz & Intel UHD 600 which supports 4K @ 60Hz (DP) (30 Hz using HDMI)
In combination with 8GB DDR4 2400Mhz. (Single channel)..8GB is the max the board supports.

Cheers :)

Heya pal,Hmm yeah i cant seem to find a definitive answer to if it has AV1 encoding or not.

I know my best bet would be to go with a cheap low powered dedicated GPU,Was just looking at options for boards with a "Aio" nature so i can keep it quiet and compact although most cases seem to be a little bigger anyway and id have to go with something like that to fit in a few hard drives.

I can't help you with most of your questions, but for what's it's worth your idea of integrated CPU graphics is where I would be going over a dedicated GPU.

Less heat, power, one less thing to go wrong (or one less variable if you need to troubleshoot) and GPUs are bloody expensive at the moment, way over in comparison to everything else.

I built a HTPC a few months ago with an AMD 5600g is it flies,to be fair it's overkill really.

Hey!

Yeah il go that route i think,Just had a look about and picked up a Ryzen 3200G for under £30,Its obviusy not the latest and greatest but theres always room to upgrade should i need to,And like you say doing away with a dedicated GPU = Less heat and power which means i can also go with a smaller case.

Just out of curiosity if you dont mind me asking what OS did you go with for your HTPC. :)

Windows.

This HTPC was to replace one I had been using for a few years that was a mash together of very old parts (10+ years), that eventually died and I gave up trying to fix as was more hassle then worth.

I have everything setup to run through brave so it blocks the adds for any of the catchup services including youtube, which is just so worth it imo, even factoring in the cost of the machine itself and a windows key.

FYI I cannot comment as such where I got my windows key from, as I got sort of told off a little for making a thread about it, only because OCUK sells windows key, but put this way, I paid about 10% of the actual retail price for mine and its working fine.
