OK, looking for some assistance in getting a HTPC set-up going. I have a load of stuff to sell (on mm) and this will fund this hopefully.

I'd be looking for this to record some TV programs, act as my DVD player (which will be upgraded to blu-ray in time) and stream music/other progs from another computer.

I suppose the questions are really

1) so I buy a core2duo set up (e.g 2140) for this or do I put my 939 stuff (see sig) in the htpc and put the core2duo in my main rig. (main rig used for gaming occasionally as well as HD video editing.

2) what OS do I use media centre or MythTV or summat else.

3) network - will wireless suffice or do I need to make it a wired connection to my router?.

4) Case - looking at a Silverstone on such as SST-LC11M or the LC20, though I like the LC17 for its clean front.

5) Output - it will be RGB (scart) too start with but I'd want the option to do HDMI to a HDTV but with audio (2600xt or likewise?)

Apologies if this seems a long winded post but my first go at htpc and want to make it a good, well reasonable, one.

Hiyahh!

I can only answer questions 1, 2 and 3 :) lol

1... id put your 939 stuff in the media pc... defo has more than enough power! Keep the c2d for your gaming! My media pc has a Intel 630 in it... wors fine! Thats playing vids, music, watching and recording tv (i have 2 tuners)... it handles everythign well :)

2... I quite like media center to be honest... the vista one is ace! :D

3... Id just use wireless... i know it can get a slating... but once set up correctly it works just as well!

Craig!! :D

Cheers,

I was going for twin tuners but looking at the 2400i which is a bit pricey atm so I'll start with a USB one and slowly upgrade when I have the cash.

Didn't realise the vista version on MCE was different on Vista and XP, does it come as std with the ultimate edition?
