htpc connection to tv advice

am looking at building a htpc with plenty of storage for music and my dvd's but am unsure as best way to connect it. i will be adding a hd/blu ray drive to it for hd output.

what would be the best connection to get the full benefit of hd movies and dvds? was going to connect via dvi - hdmi (on av reciever) to dvi on the tv, but am wondering if it would just be best to connect straight to tv via vga.

suggestions and advice please.

Connect via dvi or hdmi. You may be restricted to lower resolutions via vga.
With my Panasonic TH42PZ70, i'm restricted to 1360X768 via vga but can get full 1080p (1920X1080) connecting dvi from my graphics card to hdmi on the telly and the picture is no contest compared to vga.
