I cant decide which way to mount this (in regards to which way the grille openings should face)

In this (the fans on the side of the case are pulling in)

Also trying to figure out how to fit it for real, the push pins are really hard to get to!

You probably be ok to mount the cooler in any orientation.

With the clips, you may have to remove the board or see if a screwdriver can get in there!

Cheers, think i will mount it with the grille edge pointing ram to back, otherwise the intake fans may blow against the warm air coming out of the grille.

I stupidly just put it all in, never seen one of these type fittings!

Thats the standard mount Intel use which is a right pain in th butt to install on certain coolers and boards, lost count on amount of cuts I have gotten.

The fan I think usually draws air through the fins and expels out of the fan.

Doesnt look like a good design to me tbh

Oh i didnt realise that, if that is the case maybe the other way is better, cool air supplied from the fan onto the grille?

That might be a good way to orientate the cooler.

What cpu are you using.

Just an i3 2120, think they are fairly low power

Yes they are so you will not need to worry about high temps with that cooler, you might getaway with it passive, done this on my older HTPC with a Intel E2200 CPU, just relied on the side intake fan :D

Ill have to see what the noise is like with it. Is the fan pulling air through the heatsink best?
