Kinda silly putting 1/3 of the cost in the case (granted it has a PSU) Get the cheaper NSK 2440 instead. Replace WD with Samsung (quieter) plus add a USB IR receiver/remote.

It is, by some accounts, but it is intended to be seen by many so a nice looking case for an HPTC is certainly not money wasted in my estimation. The Samsung isn't that much quieter than the WD in practice, that's an old reputation that does not necessarily always hold true. They're both quiet.

I own WD and Samsung drives, the Samsungs are much quieter. Seek especially. As for the case only difference is the NSK is silver, the Fusion has volume and VFD and in 99% of setups serve no purpose in a HTPC setup. Since it's a budget HTPC then spending extra on a case doesn't really make sense, for a higher end HTPC then get a Silverstone Lascala or similar.

The case choice is up to the OP in the end. If he wants to spend on the Fusion or save with a less grandiose case, that's his business. If it were me I'd certainly save up and get the Silverstone.

I too have used both drives and I can't tell the difference betwixt them in the least. I still don't think fenderbass would go wrong with either of them.
