HTPC graphics problems!

Hi,

My parents have a HTPC in their living room but unfortunately it has started bluescreening yesterday and also the bottom half of the screen has all funny lines sometimes and its generally just displaying typical signs of graphics issues.

The problem is that ive not used onboard graphics myself for sooo many years. I gather the iGPU part is built on to the cpu but presumably this doesn't go wrong too often. This has made me think that its likely a motherboard fault? but I'm wondering if I could just buy a small passive dedicated graphics card and disable iGPU completely and hopefully problem sorted? or is it more likely to need a whole motherboard replacement? :)

Basically, on a scale 1 to 10, how flawed is my logic? :D any help is appreciated!

CPU - i3 540
Motherboard - H55N-USB3
Using onboard iGPU
