HTPC Machine

I've got a very old system here that i'm thinking about popping an SSD into and using for Kodi and maybe internet browsing but highly unlikely as I usually use my iPad.

System:
AMD Athlon
1gb DDR2
Some gfx card

I see posted around people install an OS for this? or do i just install Kodi onto the machine and use it like I do on my main PC now, as it currently has windows 7 on there.

Any help would be great.

You could do either, my main HTPC has Kodi on top of Mythbuntu (MythTV Ubuntu derivative) but my laptop has Win 10 + Kodi and my Nexus 7 has Android + Kodi. There is a Kodibuntu which is a Kodi Ubuntu derivative so you could try that, or OpenElec which is a cut down Linux + Kodi
