I have an old Compaq D510 USD, it has a 1.7ghz Processor, 20gb HDD and 256mb ram, I would like to use this to create an HTPC system, will this machine be any good, I know I will have to upgrade memory.. Also to make this completly silent I was thinking of removing the HDD and having it boot of the network like a thin client, has anyone here done this and if so what is the performance like and can you give me pointers on how to go about doing this? Also what is the best software for an HTPC? All it will be doing is playing streaming movies and music, it wont be doing any kind of TV recording and it wont be playing any TV so no TV card is required..
