Hi, I'm looking to put together a HTPC and was looking at phenom 9500 & 780G is this a good idea or should I stick with intel?

Cheers

The 780G is by all reports an absolutely cracking motherboard with the best integrated GPU ever created, and plays HD material perfectly. It would be very good for a HTPC.

I say go for it as well

HyperTransport 3 from the Phenom improves the performance of the integrated graphics.

Unless you want to wait for the Phenom based Tri cores and Dual cores. Technically a dual core is sufficient but they wont provide you with the HT3 of the phenom right now.

Thanks for your replies. I think I may wait a couple of weeks to see if the new intel quads push down the phenom’s price.

Cheers

Its unlikely as the current crop beat it senseless so the new ones wont effect it too much. However I agree a Phenom + 780G seems like the best budget/HTPC system available at the moment.
