Is it possible to build a PVR system to record streaming content?

I like the idea of Streaming content but the ability to record more obscure things is welcome.

I know there are ways to "record" but anything as simple as pressing record on a remote or guide for example?

What I want I guess is MCE but with the ability to record streamed content.

Are we switching away from local storage more to a time of "everything is in the cloud"?

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks.

When you say streamed content do you mean from the likes of Netflix/Amazon or off services like Twitch, Beam etc?

Anything really.

We seem to be at an odd convergence with traditional broadcast TV and IPTV.

Seem to be in that "nothing" zone while everyone hedges their bets.

You are only able to "record" if you have a standalone PVR/Aerial TV/Sattelite/Cable service.

Yes, you could get a freeview tuner but that is very limiting for content.

Some of the streaming services have an option to 'download to watch later'.
I guess the problem lies where there are a multitude of devices, many of which will have limited storage.
