I have a
Antec NSK 2480 with the standard 2x12cm fans
Abit 780G motherboard
AMD X2 4850e with OEM cooler
2GB ram
1TB + 750GB Samsung HDD's.

It plays everything well even HD, but when it comes to 720P and 1080p files, it struggles when i fast forward or skip forward. there's a delay before the video starts up again. If I get a faster graphics card would that solve that problem? If so can anyone recommend a quiet or passive low power consumption GPU which preferably does audio over HDMI so i can have one less cable also.

And secondly the PC is not quiet enough.
So I was looking at either a Scythe Mini Ninja or a Scythe Shuriken BIG Quiet Low Profile CPU Cooler. With the former being run passively. so which of those 2 or are there any other alternatives?

Whats your budget? Its quite possibly your cpu rather than lack of gfx grunt which is causing the skipping, shouldnt need a dedicated card for video playback, look at one of the newer athlon chips, possibly even an x4

It doesn't cause skipping. I meant when i skip forward or fast forward there's a delay in response, and the video pauses for a few seconds before playing back again. Unlike non HD where it skips forward instantly.

I thought the 780G takes on the load in playback, and the CPU does very little?

I have no doubt that its the stock amd cooler making the noise. Sythe mini Ninja should do the trick. I'd try running it with the fan & then without (check the temps).

I'd check to see if all the motherboard & graphic drivers are up to date 1st. 780G chipset & that CPU should be more than up to the task of 720/1080p playback, though you may need to see if the hardware acceleration is enabled in your playback software (if it has such a setting)

Failing that, Buy this (I've got one of these in my PC for blu-ray playback & it does the job)
