HTPC Remote

There's one which is pretty basic but does the job. On my Acer Revo running XBMC Live it doesn't shutdown XBMC which is the only downside, but does everything else I need it to do.

It's called Emprex 3009ARF.

I'm using a harmony 525 with a hp ir receiver from eBay Hong Kong. Works brilliantly. Has to be rc6 (I think that's what it's called) to sleep pc.

Hama MCE compatible. Have 3 of them here and can be had way under £20 (more like £12). needs a little work in setting up key mappings, but cheap, cheerful and works wherever you point it in the living room.

Is this the one?

Will this HTPC remote work on HTPC and other video players? Seen one for £13

I used to use a similar one, and for basic control of XBMC and other media players it was fine. That type are all pretty similar in function. They emulate keyboard and mouse, rather than operate as a MCE remote, so a lot of buttons don't work. That's not an issue if all you need is basic cursor control and media playback controls. Play, stop, etc.

All my buttons work (I'm running on Linux here though). I'm using a small addon program which sits and reads USB keystrokes and translates them into xbmc keypresses. See this: http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/8827 ticket. I've not really tried it with Windows (linux all the way with xbmc here).

Once I had it setup, I forgot about getting it working - it was fairly painless for me, but then I do have some experience of messing with linux device drivers. I've had it working since xbmc Camelot (now on Eden, waiting for Frodo) so am just used to it working....
